I’ll Have A Martinez

Happy New Year.

Period.

No exclamation point at the end of that salutation, I tell ya. Not this year anyway.

I’m tired, and bruised, and my belly jiggles a lot more, and I need a shower. I’m rarely alone these days, and if I do find a moment to myself someone in the house will scream for me to get them a snack.

Snacks!–That has become my middle name. In late April, I recovered from the Coronavirus, came out of a 5 week quarantine, hugged my babies tightly, and then proceeded to dole out snacks for the remainder of the year. That’s what I’ve been up to. But you understand, don’t you? After all, your life looks very similar, doesn’t it?

Let me make you a Martinez and a snack plate, and we’ll commiserate. Continue Reading

I’ll Have A St. Germain Gin And Tonic

For my birthday this year I was given a beautiful bottle of Saint Germain from my friend Ilanna. Saint Germain is an elderflower liqour that tastes citrusy and sweet, with only subtle flower hints. I’ll Have A Lusty Lady

Behold the Lusty Lady. She was my summer drink of choice, and the featured cocktail at my girls’ night one July evening. She also made an appearance at every barbecue we had this summer. And she was my companion when my boys were waving lit sparklers too close to my hair. As the worst days of winter approach (I’m looking at you, all of January and February) I’ll continue to drink this Lusty Lady to transport me back to sweet, summer memories. That’s my winter survival plan. That, and a good book. Continue Reading

I’ll Have A Clover Club Cocktail

This has been one tough winter, so I made myself a Clover Club cocktail. Normally, I would have waited to try this pre-Prohibition classic when raspberries are in season, but with winter being such a big jerk to me I needed a pretty pink drink to lift my sour spirits. Well, the Clover Club cocktail delivered. She is quite a looker. I could have stared at her all day. Thank goodness I didn’t because she’s also delicious–silky, tangy, and sweet. And a perfect gin drink for those not too fond of gin (me). The Clover Club cocktail is a wonderful remedy for those damn wintertime blues. Continue Reading
